History of the NGO

History of Shristi International Society

Shristi International Society was founded in the year 2013 with a vision to make a meaningful contribution to society across various sectors. Rooted in compassion and driven by a strong commitment to social development, the organization was established as a non-profit government-recognized body, dedicated to addressing critical issues faced by underprivileged and marginalized communities.

From its inception, Shristi began operating with a small executive board, supported by volunteers and part-time staff. An external accountant was appointed to ensure transparency and compliance with financial and tax-related requirements. The society quickly began to grow through proactive community engagement, organizing impactful programs and generating public awareness around social causes.

Over the years, Shristi has taken up numerous initiatives, including:

  • A free health check-up camp in collaboration with Guwahati Oil Refinery at "Amar Ghar" (Guwahati, 2013), which also featured a cultural performance for senior citizens.
  • Distribution of clothes and blankets to the homeless in Guwahati and disaster-affected areas in Uttarakhand (2013, 2016).
  • Plantation drives and environmental awareness campaigns, such as debates on the harmful effects of plastic bags.
  • Workshops and seminars on Indian traditions, art, and culture, including music workshops focused on the works of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
  • Legal awareness programs for women, particularly focusing on workplace harassment.
  • Women's Day celebrations and continuous efforts toward women's empowerment.
  • Annual felicitation programs recognizing upcoming industrialists and local talents since 2019.
  • Festive celebrations, including color festivals with homeless children in remote areas of Uttarakhand.
